Takoma Park/Silver Spring Co-op

Homeowners in Takoma Park and Silver Spring have formed a Solar Co-op! Through a process based on community engagement, they’ve used their collective buying power to get a discounted price for solar panels. Early in February, the group selected Edge Energy through a competitive bidding process. 95+ homeowners are in the group!

The Takoma Park / Silver Spring Solar Co-op is now closed to new participants. Thank you to all of you who raised your hands and said “yes” to solar!

Sorry you missed out? Sign up for the MD SUN newsletter to learn of new co-ops as they launch near you.

How does the co-op work?

Based on the same principal as buying in bulk, the co-op will go through the process of purchasing solar systems together. The group selected a single contractor to install systems on all of the homes, but each participant owns their own system and will sign their own contract with the chosen installer.

By going solar as a group, members will save approximately 25% off the cost of a solar system. They’ll also have the support of the co-op throughout the process instead of having to go it alone. The co-op is being organized by the City of Takoma Park, Community Power Network (CPN), and CPN’s project MD SUN. Anyone located in Takoma Park, Silver Spring or a surrounding neighborhood in MD is welcome to join.
